Case Study 3 – Life Saving Certainty
Know exactly who’s on site and what they’re qualified to do. See how IrisID was implemented after a non-credentialed crane operator used another ID, killing an onsite worker.
Having absolute clarity around who’s on-site and what they’re able to do there, can mean the difference between life and death in high-risk operations. Non-compliance can harm your people and shut you down.
The Problem
In a shipyard in South East Asia which employed about 7000 workers, non-credentialed machine operators posed a threat to the safety of other workers. It’s a problem common to all industries but the consequences of an error in this environment is always potentially catastrophic.
In one case, the qualified worker passed on his credentials to an untrained colleague who incorrectly operated machine which resulted in the death of one of their workers.

The Solution
The solution was straight forward – link the identification of a worker using Iris recognition to the credentials of the worker.
Housing the Iris identification system at the front gate allowed only pre-identified and pre-approved workers to be on site, regardless of their credentials. This removed the possibility of any worker handing their credentials to someone else.
The Results
Immediately, the company had assurance of identification, liability was dramatically addressed, while workers had assurance that those around them were approved to be there.
